Overview

The DM74LS169AN is a Synchronous 4 bit binary counter, meaning that all internal operations are synchronized to the clock signal. This synchronous presettable counter boasts an inbuilt carry look-ahead, making it suitable for high-speed counting setups. All flip-flops are clocked simultaneously, ensuring outputs shift concurrently when directed by the count-enable inputs coupled with internal gates. This operation style aids in avoiding the output count anomalies typically seen with asynchronous (or ripple clock) counters. A buffered clock input activates the four primary-secondary flip-flops during the upward trajectory of the clock signal.
