Overview

Silicon Labs' DC-DC Converters are ultra-efficient boost converters, ideal for low power applications. The low power TS3310 boost switching regulator has an industry leading low quiescent current of 150nA. The 150nA is the actual current consumed from the battery while the output is in regulation. The device's extremely low power internal circuitry consumes 90nA on average, with periodic switching cycles which service the load occurring at intervals of up to 25 seconds, together yielding the average 150nA. The dc-dc converter steps up input voltages from 0.9V to 3.6V to eight selectable output voltages ranging from 1.8V to 5V. The TS3300 includes an anti-crush feature to prevent the collapse of the input voltage to the boost regulator when the input is a weak (high impedance) source. Anti-crush is useful in applications where a buffer capacitor at the boost's output can service burst loads, and the input source exhibits substantial source impedance (such as an old battery, or at cold temperatures).
